Celebrating El Paso's Old West Heritage

The Meeting of the John Wesley Hardin Secret Society

Friday august 19th witnessed the 116th anniversary of the demise of famed gunslinger turned attorney, John Wesley Hardin.  Once again the John Wesley Hardin Secret Society held their fund raiser for Concordia Cemetery at the grave site.  Things got launched early with a resolution being read at the El Paso County Commissioner's Court on Monday August 15th.  The times ran a brief story on Thursday the 18th, mentioning Hardin's brief stay in the Pass of the North.

Folks were lined up and eager to go at 6:30 Friday evening as things were being set up.  Re-enactments of various events connected to Hardin were done by Six Guns & Shady Ladies.  As always, they put on a great show, narrated in song and word by the talented Cliff Seaman.

The weather cooperated this year. Once the sun began setting it cooled quickly, there was just enough breeze to make life interesting.  There was neither clap of thunder nor lightning bolt to hurry things along as we've had in past years.

The beautiful Deen Underwood was in attendance.  It was good to see her mobile again after her fall back in May.  I have her promise to be in Tombstone  for the Rendezvous of Gun Fighter.

According to the gate, some 300 people attended this year's event.  Overall, a good time was had by all.
