El Paso Museum of History

A hidden jewel in the sun city.  There’s always something going on at the Museum.

Border Heritage Center-El Paso Public Library

The collection at the Main Library has got to be the starting place for any research or study in El Paso’s Old West Heritage.  The Border Heritage Center also houses the Aultman Collection of photographs.

El Paso County Historical Society

Headquartered out of the home of frontier lawyer Richard Burgess,  The EPCHS has one of the greatest collections of scrap books, City Directories and photographs in the region.

El Paso County Historical Commission

Shakespeare Ghost Town

One of the most authentic Ghost town you’ll ever find.  I have had a special love of this place and it’s people for years.

Railroad and Transportation Museum of El Paso

The transportation museum in El Paso.  Home of Engine #1.  Also has an active chapter of “Harvey Girls”

Magoffin Home

The home of one of El Paso's pioneers, This adobe home is fantastic.  It recently went through a renovation restoring it to the 1890’s.

Portales Museum

Located on the plaza in San Elizario, a hidden jewel and wealth of information

Paso del Norte Pistoleros

The oldest Gun Fight re enactment group in El Paso.  Created in 1990 by community Law Enforcement officers and Educators,  thanks to Uncle Sam the membership spans the country from coast to coast.

Six Guns & Shady Ladies

The busiest Gunfight Re enactment group in the region, Six Guns puts on one heck of a show.

GHOST-EP

One of the better paranormal research groups in the area.  In the past year they have built an impressive knowledge base of El Paso history.

Wild West History Association

The Wild West History Association promotes preservation of the old west.  They publish a great journal quarterly, and informative newsletter.

Hubbard Museum of the American West

Another great resource of research material.  Great collection of saddles.

U.S. Cavalry Association

Where it all started for me.  The Association’s original museum was here in El Paso, and was the genesis of the El Paso Museum of History.

Concordia Heritage Association

El Paso’s version of Boot Hill.  Some 60,00 souls were laid to rest in this once plush cemetery.

Capstone Productions

Jackson Polk has produced a wonderful series of DVD’s portraying El Paso’s rich heritage.  Jackson also produces the Leon Metz Radio Show on KTSM 690AM on Saturday mornings 10:00 Mountain Time

Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum

Located in Las Cruces, NM.  Great museum dealing with south western ranching.

Wild West Magazine

A darned good resource for articles dealing with the Wild West.  Great archive of old articles.  You name it, someone has written about it.

True West Magazine

A darned good resource for articles dealing with the Old West. Bob Boze Bell has done a great job with this publication.

Single Action Shooting Society

Wanna get out and shoot that Colt or Winchester in competition? These folks are the place to be.  Be it authentic Old West or Two Reeler Western, they use it all.

Mission Trail Shuttle Service

A new service that I have not had a chance to follow up on.  But looks to be a good deal

The O.K. Corral

The place in front of, and over from where the “Arrest Gone Bad” went down. I’ve been there every year, but one, since 1996.
