The Society does have two VERY informal meetings a year:

1:  April 14th of each year at the south west corner of the intersection of South El Paso St and W San Antonio St. This “historical” planter marks the location of the “Four Dead in Five Seconds” gunfight.  Meeting time is between 5:30 to 6:00PM.

2:  September 18th of each year at the El Paso St side of the Camino Real Hotel.  This is the approximate location of where the “Dance of Death” occurred in 1882.  Meeting time is 6:30.

For both meetings, it’s a VERY informal gathering, where we toast the man and his times. (Bring Your Own Nonalcoholic Beverage)

In the mid 1990’s, Bobby McNellis of El Paso Saddlery, created “The Secret John Wesley Hardin Society”, to commemorate the death of the famed gunslinger.  At 11:02PM each August 19th, the members would head out to Concordia Cemetery to drink a toast to Wes.  It was members of the Hardin Society that helped spearhead the fight to prevent the interlopers from Nixon, Texas from stealing Hardin’s remains.

As the 125th anniversary of Dallas Stoudenmire’s death approached, I began to think of ways to commemorate the event.  I admit it; I’m not above stealing a perfectly good idea when I have the chance.  Since the Hardin Society is “Secret”, the Stoudenmire Society would be “Not so secret”.  It’s just a fun idea, and a neat card to carry in the wallet.

In time, it is hoped “The Not So Secret Dallas Stoudenmire Society” will become a force in preserving and promoting the Old West heritage of the Sun City.
